Corer Head with Valve System

This is the central piece in the coring system. The core tube is screwed onto this head. The valve is completely open during the controlled lowering of the device with a taut wire. When the wire gets slack the valve closes slightly, and when pulling the wire again it closes completely so that the sediment will be pulled up by the resulting vacuum. Made in Sweden. More...

We recommend using this corer with a thin wire (e.g., 3 mm or 1/8") in order to get precise operation. A hand winch is labor saving, but preferably the actual coring is done holding the wire by hand (using a protective glove).

Weight Holder

This device attaches to the core tube with wing nuts. The lead weights are in turn screwed onto this device. By selecting the position of this device on the core, the desired length of core can be adjusted within certain limits. Made in Sweden.

Axelsson Core Tube 6 dm

Rectangular core tube made of PMMA. Total length 6 dm (2ft). The inner cross section is 30 mm x 60 mm, and the wall thickness 4 mm. The lower end has a brass cutter sharpened on the outside, and a slot into which a metal plate can be inserted to prevent core loss when lifting the core above the water surface.

The core tube is delivered with a pair of rectangular corks, and a metal plate that fits the slot. Made in Sweden.
